How To Use Batch Registry Processing with DameWare NT Utilities

The information in this article applies to:
  • DameWare NT Utilities

In order to use DNTU's Batch Registry View, please follow these basic steps:

1.  Launch DameWare NT Utilities.
2.  Expand your machine and then double click on the Registry View.
3.  Highlight the Registry Key you would like to export and then click on the Registry Menu and select Export Registry Key. This will create a .REG file with just the highlighted Key and corresponding values.
4.  Drag each computer that you would like to update the registry to the bottom pane (batch processing pane) of the registry view.
5.  Once you have added all the computers, highlight all the computers in the batch pane and then click on the Batch Processing icon.
6.  Browse and find the .REG file that you want to send to all the computers and then click the OPEN button.

Please also note there are some limitations to DNTU's Registry View and Batch Registry functionality:

1. DNTU's Registry View currently only supports REGEDIT4 files. Therefore, if you use DNTU Registry Export feature to export the .REG file it will read REGEDIT which is compatible with NT, 2000, XP, and Vista. If you use the Windows 2000/XP/2003 Regedit program to export the file it will read REGEDIT5 at the top of the .reg file, which is not compatible with DNTU's Registry View (because it's not backwards compatible with NT4).

2. At the present time, DNTU's Registry View does not support batch deletion/removal of keys or values.

For example, the following syntax is not currently supported:

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DameWare Development]
-or-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DameWare Development]
"SomeKey"=-
