Comprehensive Remote Support Software that allows System Administrators to perform many of their daily tasks from one software console.
Hi, I'm Craig McDonald, Dameware Product Manager. Today, I'm going to walk you through how you apply a license to a new purchase or upgrade of the Dameware products. If you're a Dameware customer and you recently purchased or upgraded to v8, you're going to license the product differently than you have in the past.
This video is a quick tour of how SolarWinds licensing works and how you will license new versions moving forward. In the past, a license file was emailed to you, which you would then drop on the About dialog to license your new version. This has changed.
First, if a license key is required, you will no longer be sent a license file by email. You will now find your license keys in the SolarWinds Customer Portal. If you've purchased NT Utilities or Dameware through SolarWinds, then you should have an email that contains your SolarWinds ID. This is what you use to log into the SolarWinds Customer Portal. I've entered my SolarWinds ID and password. Now, I'll log on.
Once logged in, click on the 'License Management' link to view all of your SolarWinds licenses. I can see I have a license for NT Utilities and Mini Remote Control. The Portal shows me how many seats I've purchased and the number of installations I have available. I can download the new version from here, and I can also see my activation key, which is what I'll use to license the product once it's installed. This key will persist in the portal so it can be reused for additional installations. The Customer Portal will keep track of my installations so I know how many I have left. It also provides me with the history of activations using this key, so I can see all of the machines on which the product has been activated.
I'll go ahead and copy the activation key so I can use it to activate the new version. I've already downloaded and installed version 8. Towards the end of the installation, you'll be prompted to enter license information, which is the screen you see here. I'll enter the activation key and hit 'Next.' Then I'll enter my registration information to finish. Now version 8 of MRC is licensed and ready to go.
Now that I've installed MRC and licensed it, I can see that one of my remaining installations has been used, and I now have two left. This counter will update whenever I install on a new machine or deactivate a license so that I can move the install from one machine to another. Let's take a look at how to do that.
To deactivate or park a license, I'll use the SolarWinds License Manager Utility. If it's not already installed on your machine, you can download it from SolarWinds.com. I already have it installed, which is what you see here. I can see the license I just activated. I'll go ahead and deactivate it. Now this license is available to install on another machine.
If I go back to the SolarWinds Customer Portal, I can see that the available installation counter has incremented to reflect the license I just deactivated. In the future, this is the process you'll follow to license new versions of the software that require an activation key.
If you run into any issues or don't have your SolarWinds ID, simply contact SolarWinds customer service, and they should be able to help. Thanks for watching.
